OVERVIEW

Gain control ranging from defined distortions to fuzzy textures;

• Rising control: adjust compression from saturated to open, dynamic sounds;

 Active EQ with Bass/Treble to shape your sound, from mid-hump to mid-scoop;

• Voice Switch: dense, aggressive and fuzzy distortion OR dry, focused, and punchy response;

• Perfect for guitarists seeking iconic tones with modern flexibility.

CONCEPT

The Royalbreaker is a distortion pedal built to dethrone any would-be monarch from your pedalboard. Combining an intense distortion range that spans from thick, aggressive tones to a powerful, punchy response, it offers the flexibility and impact guitarists need to stand out in any setting.

Inspired by themes of revolution, the Royalbreaker isn’t just a pedal—it’s the spark of a new era of distortion on your pedalboard, pushing your creativity to break barriers and defy norms!

HOW DOES A DISTORTION PEDAL WORK?

The fundamental processes of a distortion pedal involve three main stages: gain, clipping, and frequency filtering. First, the instrument signal is amplified to increase its amplitude. In the gain stage, amplification is adjusted, and specific frequencies can be filtered to shape the sound and prepare it for clipping, creating a more targeted distortion.

Clipping occurs when the amplified signal exceeds the circuit’s capacity, "cutting off" the signal peaks, which generates additional harmonics and distorts the sound. In most distortion pedals, clipping is achieved through a pair of silicon or LED diodes.

TONESTACK

The Royalbreaker features an Active Baxandall two-band tonestack, providing precise control over bass and treble frequencies. The Bass and Treble controls can be adjusted individually or together, offering flexible tonal shaping from Mid-Hump to Mid-Scoop. Here’s how the tonestack behaves in different settings:

2 band Baxandal EQ

Figure 2 - Baxandall Tonestack Functionality of the Royalbreaker Distortion.

Bass & Treble clockwise: Creates a "Mid-Scoop" with a central frequency around 700Hz, perfect for brighter, cutting tones;

• Bass & Treble at noon: In this "flat" setting, only passive filters from other stages shape the sound, creating a balanced tone (effects of passive filters are not displayed in the graph);

Bass & Treble counter-clockwise: Creates a "Mid-Hump," boosting mid frequencies around 700Hz, adding fullness and body to your sound;

When used individually, the Bass and Treble controls allow you to fine-tune either low or high frequencies, respectively, for more precise tonal adjustments.

CONTROLS

• Level: Controls the pedal’s output volume. Use this to balance any gain or volume changes from the “Rising,” “Bass,” or “Treble” knobs.

• Gain: Adjusts the pedal’s gain level. Turning clockwise increases gain, making the tone more "fuzzy" when the Voice Switch is in the upward position.

• Rising: Controls the clipping level, allowing a transition between silicon diodes for more compression and higher distortion (counterclockwise) and LEDs for more punch and less compression (clockwise). Intermediate positions blend the two clipping types.

• Bass & Treble: Adjusts low and high frequencies, respectively. For more details, see the "Tonestack" section above.

• Voice Switch: Selects the tonal contour for low frequencies. In the up position, you’ll get a fuller sound with rich lows and an open distortion that can achieve “fuzzy” tones at higher gain settings. In the down position, lows are tighter, giving more punch.

THE king of distortion on my pedalboard!

I already had the Krakenheart from Krozz Devices that I really liked. I follow on social media LetsPlayAllGuitar, who makes amazing covers and reviews of great pedals. Saw this pedal for the first time on his channel, and it sounded just soooo good that I started to look after other reviews.
After all those videos, I ordered one by Palf.fr (that I really recommend if you look to order pedals in Europe!!!! Great service! Merci a vous si vous voyez le message du coup 😉).
When I received it and opened that box, just the looks of this pedal are hot! Well built, a nice and solid case! The design is just super but I already saw that on the internet. But still in real, it's just amazing! Then, I putted this beauty on my new pedalboard, where I left a place open for this Royalbreaker. I've set the knobs on a setting that I saw in a video of LetsPlayAllGuitar when he plays a Foo Fighter song. Amp on, pedal on, 1 strum on my guitar and 🔥🔥🔥 DAMN!!!! What a sound. There's a crown on this pedal, and it really deserves it in my opinion! It growls, the sound... well difficult to describe it, but if you're hesitating, go watch some YouTube videos, and if that's the sound you're looking after, order one! You won't regret it 😎
It's also nice how you can have a kind of different sound by playing with the voltage (my preference is 9v to have more that 🐀 sound from it, but in 18v it sounds killer too!).
Thanks Krozz Devices to made such a good pedal, looks are hot, sound is even more incredible. Can't wait what you'll bring out in the future !
And yeah, thanks @LetsPlayAllGuitar (insta or letsplayall youtube) for the super lessons and videos that you make !
And merci to Palf.fr for the service when you order a pedal from their site!
And sorry for the long texts, but it's over, I'm leaving to have some fun on

🔥🔥🔥 THE ROYALBREAKER !!!!!🔥🔥🔥

A distortion to rule them all

This pedal is very well build. Nice graphic. But what set it apart from the myriad of other overdrive/distortion pedal is the sound. Or should I say soundS. The « Rising » knob with the voice switch can cover a lot of ground. Works well with a clean amp by itself or combine with other pedals. I am impress.
